I hope this camp is still around when Collin gets old enough to go! It's called Camp Inquiry and it's kinda like a "church camp" for families and children who DON'T GO TO CHURCH.  I love to concept. And if you listen to the podcast from NPR you can see how interesting it is!!!

I NEED THIS SIGN

I saw this pic on one of my favorite time wasting sites: stuffonmycat.com (I am still awaiting the posting of Diesel and Captains pics)

Oh, I sooooo need this sign. I have searched the interwebs with NO LUCK. The person who makes the sign no longer makes the sign anymore. She used to sell it over at the PETA site.  She also has a few cafepress stores, but they only sell the t-shirts and I WANT THE SIGN.

Anyone who can procure one of these signs for me....will get a very cool prize.

ZOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have finished the Kitchen Remodel by putting in the NEW FLOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All that is left to do is to tear out the one wall (Scott's job) and then install new countertops (my job). Scott will do the wall over Thanksgiving vacation.

I cannot tell you how much I love the new floor. And can I tell you how EASY it was to install?????? SO EASY. I ran into a few snags when it came to the edges of the room (room is NOT square...meaning...the walls are NOT built straight) but other than that....PIECE OF CAKE.

All done! It's like the first floor there ever was! (Friends quote)

Some of the weirdest shit I have seen in a loooooooong time. Woman needs therapy ASAP. My jaw dropped and remained on the floor through the entire thing. Oh, and my favorite part? How the cat now has "dreams" to meet Tiger Woods and have a meal with Oprah. Sure lady, the cat wants to meet those famous people.

Retail Thearpy

According to my favorite blogger, Aly, there is now scientific proof that shopping is good for you, especially when you find bargains. Read her article. Read her blog too. She's made of complete win.

So, I took her advice and just bought some new products from my new favorite, all natural bodycare company....Bubble and Bee Organic.

I saw an ad for their Pit Putty in my new issue of Natural Solutions. At that price, I just HAD to try it. I also picked up a lip gloss and lotion stick. Yes, shipping was a bit high (flat rate of $6.95) but, shipping is high for everything now because of gas prices and this is a small company, so I just sucked it up. I can't wait for it to arrive!!! My LUSH natural deo wasn't working for me so much. The article in Natural Solutions about making the switch to natural deos was VERY informative and I suggest that everyone read it.

Hair cut

FROG
Collin desperately needed his hair cut and I usually take him along with me when I get mine cut (in Avon, by my parents) because they do his for free. Well...I'm not going up to my parents until, at earliest, sometime next week and I really wanted his hair cut so I thought I'd take him to the kids place we got his 1st haircut at. Before reading this, I want to let you know Collin has had 3 haircuts already and has been perfectly FINE with the experience.

Drove there. They were closed. Damn. I *knew* I should have called first.

Oh well. I will find another place. I'm sure they has to be a Best Cuts or something in the Belden area.

I drive over to the Strip, and sure enough, there is a Best Cuts there. No waiting; we get started right away.

And Collin FREAKS OUT. As if the poor hairdresser was torturing him.

First, it was the sitting on the chair. Nope. Didn't want to do that. Tried distracting with a comb. He usually loves combs. Comb is a no-go.

Then it was the cape. He was like "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT??????????? GET>IT>OFF>NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Off went the cape.

Then I had to have him sit in my lap. I tried putting the cape on MYSELF, seeing as I myself would like to remain hair-free, but he freaked out again. Seriously afraid of black capes.

Then the hairdresser started spritzing water. Collin reacted as if she were spraying him with battery acid.

Tried distracting with Fish crackers. Nope. Doesn't want those either.

And then the scissors. Oh, dear lord, the scissors.  The hairdresser is at her wits end and is this.close to making me leave saying things like "Maybe it's nap time?" I debate this idea seeing as no hair has been cut yet. But, I want this done today and it's not as if it's going to be any different/easier another day.

Hairdresser suggests a sucker and I give in even though Collin has never had one before. Maybe the novelty of pure sugar-on-a-stick will calm him down. It does. For like 5 minutes. The hairdresser manages to get *most* of the hair cut.

Collin now has sucker all over his face. His cut hair is sticking to him and his hands. Decides to FREAK OUT about this. I have to take him to the bathroom and wash him off.

I am mentally calculating the enormous tip I will have to leave.

Back to the cut. She now tries the finish with the clippers and I'm thinking "This woman has to be crazy. As if my child is going to let her within 5 feet of him with those clippers." But, I humor her and let her try. Just as I predicted. The minute those clippers touched his head he was like "HELLS NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???????????"

Since the hair was only 1/2 cut and actually looked WORSE than when we came in, I made the hairdresser attempt to finish.

I pulled out some hair clips from her drawer and made them QUACK like a duck and that bought us another 5 minutes of actual haircutting time.

All in all....the hair is cut. Looks better than it did before it was cut, so I guess I will call it a success.

But, I am never going back to that Best Cuts only because I am embarrassed. He's never been like this for any of his other 3 haircuts. Why now????

I haven't experimented with many new food recipes lately, but pork chops were on sale the other day and since I've never cooked them before I needed to find a yummy way to serve them.

This recipe was amazing! So yummy and tasty!!!

Ingredients

2 pork chops
6 Tablespoons soy sauce
6 Tablespoons honey
6 Tablespoons ketchup
  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Sprinkle both sides of chops with salt and pepper; place in a lightly greased/sprayed baking dish.
  3. Mix remaining ingredients and evenly pour over pork chops.
  4. Cover and bake at 350 for about 45 minutes, or until pork is slightly pink in center.
  5. Uncover and bake 5 minutes longer.
  6. Serve
I served them with corn on the cob and quinoa. It's my new favorite meal.

Joliba Trust

I normally don't post things like this, but Karen is a friend of mine back from my days at BW. She's probably one of the most interesting, intelligent, kind, passionate people you will ever meet. She is currently trying to collect $2,000 for the Joliba Trust. Information on why she is raising this money and about the Joliba Trust can be found here in her blog.

She only has $900 to go...and has 4 days to do it. I received my stimulus check the other day and it's just a bit of an added bonus that donating a portion of this money to another country is the exact opposite of what George Bush wanted us to do with the check.

You can donate to the trust directly here.

Like Karen said, every little bit helps and even $10.00 goes a long way in Mali.

I cannot say enough good things about Karen. She is truly one of the most wonderful people I have been honored to know.

Vote for Yogurt!

FROG
Stoneyfield Farms will be introducing a new yogurt flavor and you can vote on what it should be!

While I usually abstain from yogurt altogether, if I do choose to eat some, it has to be Stoneyfield Farms or some other organic brand. I know yogurt is good for you and blah blah blah, but I can't get past the bitter taste of most yogurts. Except when I was pregnant. I ate like 2 cups a day. But, it had to have grape nuts mixed in.

There were so many yummy choices that I had a very difficult time choosing just one...but I eventually went with Fat Free Lychee Acai.
